The Golden City Dixies were founded in the early 1950s. They could be considered as the South African version of vaudeville. They were probably the first group to tour overseas where they received a warm welcome and their talents were appreciated. Many artists who gained fame as soloists had their start with The Dixies. These include Majiet Omar, Danny Williams, Dave Bestman, Jonathon Butler,Jonathan Stevens, Vivienne Kensley, Bernie Brown, Zayn Adams and Barry Otto.
